To the Editor,

The "Stop Hirises" group are quick to spread fear, uncertainty, and doubt, and to state their goals of preserving a "village" atmosphere at the Lynn Valley Mall. Sadly they choose to ignore some facts.

The Mall that forms the centre of Lynn Valley is not healthy. There is an empty library building, an empty Zellers store, a couple of empty small stores inside the mall, and depending on Sobey's plans, a possibly soon to be empty Safeway store. This is a very bad situation, and one that needs to be addressed before more businesses disappear.

Traffic and transit patterns have all been studied to death by trained professionals at the District. Yes, they actually count the number cars coming and going, and can project changes. The District's Official Community Plan and Transportation plans are very well thought out, and aim to build a community that thrives instead of just surviving.

And of course despite what the "Stop Hirises" group may claim, every step of these processes has included large and costly amounts of community involvement.

The proof of the pudding though is in the results to date from the large crowds of people responding to the proposed Lynn Valley plans via the Metroquest <http://lynnvalley.metroquest.com/> on-line feedback forms.

Most people actually like the proposed development plans that include taller buildings. A lot of those people even like the proposed 20+ story towers, and the community amenities that would be included.

I encourage everyone in Lynn Valley to look closely ( http://identity.dnv.org/) at what is being proposed, and to make up their own minds.
